Transition Complete

After 36-48hrs, the transition seems to be complete.  DNS (at least in my neck of the woods) has fully updated.  Email is flowing with very few messages going into the original imhosted site.  www.shirel.com, mail.shirel.com, calendar.shirel.com, and docs.shirel.com are all being redirected into Google apps...  So, after 12+ years of hosting the domain elsewhere (and the last 5+ of it really just coasting and not being maintained at all), I think it's finally on a platform where I can work to revive the site again.

Now to try to figure out what I want to do with it....

Progress.. Isn't it a wonderful thing?

Well, we are making progress.  After a good deal of trial and error, DNS has been pulled back to Network Solutions(1) and all of the entries look the way they should.  It took a bit of hunting through the Google Apps documentation.  But, I finally figured out what names and addresses to use.  Then, as I punched the button to activate the changes on the google side of things... all the information I needed was presented to me as they walked me through the process.  (So much for trying to plan ahead...)

So, now it's time for the waiting game while DNS servers around the world (or at least around my neighborhood) have their cache timeout and the updates go into affect.

(1) I know, I know... I'm using the most expensive registrar...  This will be remedied the next time the domain is getting close to renewal time.  After the Wilbur Child was born, I registered the domain for an insane number of years.  That either has, or is about to, expire.  When that happens, I'll spend time looking at the other registrars to find the best deal (price*ease-of-use*reliability).

Moving on Up

After several years of thinking about it, but never doing anything, today's the day I'm going to make the first attempt at moving shirel.com off of imhosted.com and into Google Apps.  The website has been defunct for years now.  So, I guess it's time that I start doing something with it.  So, I decided to start this blog.  Not sure what I have to say yet...  But, this seemed like as good a place to get the ball rolling for a techno nerd.

We'll see how it goes....  I'll try to write about the progress (or lack there of) that I make.
